Muslim Girls Urged to Pursue Islamic and Secular Education for Future Leadership

Young Muslim girls in Malawi have been urged to strengthen both their Islamic and secular education for the preparation of responsible leadership and become positive role models in society.

National Children Commission Commissioner, Lyka Mtambo Milanzi, made the call on Sunday at a Muslim Girls Camp in Lilongwe, where participants were taught about constitutional principles, Islamic teachings and character development.

Milanzi said understanding constitutional rights and Islamic values would help young people make informed decisions rather than follow others out of ignorance.

She encouraged the girls to put extra effort into both secular and Islamic education, saying knowledge would help prepare them for their future responsibilities.

Milanzi further advised the girls not to rush into marriage and urged them to respect their parents and teachers while setting good examples in their communities.

Islamic Information Bureau National Coordinator, Sheikh Abdul Hamid Chibwe, said organizers were encouraged by the turnout, with the camp meeting its target of 100 girls aged between 14 and 25.

He called on Islamic organisations, Jamaats, mosques and other stakeholders to work together to expand youth programmes.

Participant, Samilah Nkata, of Iqra University said the camp addressed important issues affecting young girls and she urged organisers to reach more young people through similar programmes.

The camp, organised by the Islamic Information Bureau, started on August 21 and will end on August 24 under the theme “Rooted by Faith, Shaped by Character.”
